Floor scraper, chisel, and paint scraper
When removing tiles, you will need a floor scraper to scrape away the pieces of tile from the floor. If the underlayment is done using mortar, you will need a chisel for the job. On the other hand, if the underlayment is made of other pliable material, an ordinary scraper will do the job just fine. You will need a paint scraper for removing grout or any other material used in place of grout between the tiles.
Your safety
This job can be very dangerous because cut tile can be very sharp on the edges. To avoid being cut, you will need to wear a strong pair of gloves, preferably made from leather. Working with a chisel involves sharp debris flying from the floor which can easily cause injury to your eyes. To prevent this, you need clear sunglasses so that you can see your work space well while keeping yourself safe.
Working with mortar or tiles involves the generation of a lot of dust which can cause you lung problem. Excessive inhalation of dust can be very dangerous and you need to prevent this by wearing a dust mask. You should double this with a dustcoat to keep your clothes from the dust you will be generating while working.
