The makeup of any business encompasses negotiators as a significant part. It takes great skill to be an excellent negotiator who can make deals happen with ease. Luckily, anybody can become a successful negotiator if they know what it takes to be one. Dike Ajiri is an excellent negotiator with several years of experience. He has also worked with many major companies and in his career, he has made some very notable deals to happen. He has seen many purchases and sales happen as a direct result of his negotiation in skills. In this article, I will be looking at some of the skills that one needs to make a great negotiator.
Listening
To master the art of negotiation, one needs to be an excellent listener. Listening allows one not only to hear what is being said, but more importantly, what is not being said. It is not possible to start a negotiation without understanding fully what the negotiation is all about and that is why listening is very important.
A good negotiator is also capable of adapting easily and fast to situations as they evolve. Negotiators talk to different audiences that hold different opinions and feelings about different ideas and being able to get through to them takes a great deal of adaptability.
Communication
Negotiation simply can’t proceed with communication. One needs to be able to articulate their points nicely so as to pass across whatever information they need to pass without sounding ambiguous or awkward. Communication doesn’t happen by the use of words alone. Sometimes, the nonverbal cues that people give are very important.
Patience
Lastly, we have patience. Whenever there is a negotiation, it means that there are two or more opinions coming from different people or entities. It therefore requires patience and maturity in order to get through to all parties involved without sounding biased. To do that, one must be able to remain patient to allow things to run their course without pushing too much.
